Dr. Francisco Dieguez, MD
Cardiology/ Principal Investigator
Dr. Francisco Dieguez is a seasoned cardiologist specializing in coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, and hypertension. With decades of clinical experience, he has been involved in cardiology research since the mid-1990s and currently leads studies aimed at advancing treatments and technologies to improve cardiovascular health. Dr. Dieguez is a strong advocate for preventative cardiology, helping patients manage risk factors for heart disease through education, lifestyle modification, and proactive care.
Dr. Max Benjamin, MD
Nephrology/ Internal Medicine/ Principal Investigator
Dr. Max Benjamin is a nephrology and internal medicine specialist with over 40 years of experience. Since 1987, he has played a pivotal role in clinical research, advancing treatments in kidney disease and internal medicine. Known for his extraordinary compassion and analytical acumen, Dr. Benjamin leads research that blends scientific innovation with a patient-first approach, helping shape modern standards of care and improving lives.
Dr. Jorge Barbeito, MD
Family Medicine/ Principal Investigator
Dr. Jorge L Barbeito is a board-certified family medicine physician with over 40 years of experience. Dr. Barbeito is highly experienced in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension while also providing preventative care & routine physical exams. Since 2017, Dr. Barbeito has been involved in numerous research studies, including those focused on Alzheimer’s disease, COPD, migraines, and arthritis. Dr. Barbeito leads research at La Familia Research in family medicine, advancing treatments and improving outcomes for patients with chronic conditions.
Dr. Carlos Hurtado- Infante, MD
Psychiatry/ Principal Investigator
Dr. Carlos Hurtado Infante is a highly credentialed psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience in mental health care. Dr. Hurtado specializes in mood disorders, ADHD, substance-related disorders, and psychotic conditions. Since 2022, Dr. Hurtado Infante has been engaged in clinical research focusing on mood disorders, anxiety, and substance-related treatments. His patient-centered approach integrates biological, psychological, and social factors to provide comprehensive mental health care.
Jorge Alvarez, FNP
Family Registered Nurse/ Sub-Investigator
Jorge Alberto Alvarez is a bilingual Family Nurse Practitioner with over 26 years of experience in medicine, nursing, and pharmacy. With a background as a medical doctor overseas, he brings extensive clinical expertise in patient care, diagnostics, and treatment planning. He currently serves as a Family Nurse Practitioner at La Familia Medical Centers and as a Sub-Investigator at La Familia Research, where he leverages his extensive healthcare background to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and support clinical research efforts.
